World Gym Fitness Ctr

I joined World Gym about 2 years ago with 30 others when our previous racquetball club closed down. This gym used to be the old Charlie Club and in its heyday was the premier racquetball club in this area. Given its history, the reasonable cost ($200/year), and the promise by the club management to repair some of the courts sealed the deal for my membership. Since joining none of the court problems have been addressed. Lights are still burnout, hardwood courts have water damage and bare wood showing from being poorly refinished, there is little or no air conditioning, and the front walls have paint and drywall damage. Over the years I have been to many racquet clubs and these are by far the worst maintained courts I have ever seen! Throughout the months several members have had made requests to fix up courts. The management provided lots of lip service but nothing has been done.

The whole club suffers from poor ventilation especially in locker room. Musty smells permeates throughout. A good percentage of showers don't work properly or at all. Black mold can be seen in the tile grout. The lockers have seen better days as many are dented, scuffed, and don't close properly. To their credit the ratty locker room carpet was recently replaced with tile.

On the plus side, the cardio and weight machines are dated but most do work. The basketball courts seem well maintained. I have not used the pool.

These problems have forced the scattering of 20 of the original 30 to other area clubs. I can understand a cash-strapped business needing to pace repairs but after 2 years and many broken promises I believe they have a serious management problem. On my last day of membership I was asked by the counter girl if I would like to renew. I asked back when the above mentioned problems are going to be fixed. After she had a short discussion with the "regional manager" in the back room their answer was "we didn't know there were any problems". Incompetent or clueless - either way you can find better places to spend your workout dollars. I did.
